Fitzroy Island

The Fitzroy Island Ferry departs Cairns 3 times per day, a relaxing 45-minute cruise in a 190-seat air-conditioned catamaran to the sheltered waters of Welcome Bay on Fitzroy Island.

Departs Cairns Marina | 8am, 11am, and 1:30pm
Departs Fitzroy | 9:30am, 12:15pm, and 5pm.

* Please note the midday transfers do not operate during February and March.

Fitzroy Flyer Accessibility Information:

• The gangways smallest width measurement is 790mm.
• It is recommended that guests should be able to walk a short distance or have a carer to assist them to negotiate a few steps.

Parking:

• Closest parking: There is accessible parking at the outdoor carpark of the Pier Shopping centre next to the Reef Fleet Terminal. This is a metered $2 per hour car park.
• There are bays located just outside the Reef Fleet Terminal building which you could drop off a guest in a wheelchair whilst someone else from your group parks the car.
• Nearby: The Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal Car Park offers all day parking for a cost of $12/day. Accessible parking available. This car park is just a 2 minutes’ walk along the Cairns Marlin Marina to the Reef Fleet Terminal.

Check-in Location:

Check-in opens 1 hour prior to departure at the Fitzroy Island Resort Booking Centre Shop 2/1 Spence Street, its attached to the Reef Fleet Terminal building and located between the Calypso Camera Hire Shop and Tropical Aspect Souvenir shop.

Boarding closes 15 mins prior to departure.
Please make sure you allow yourself at least 15 minutes after check in to walk up Marlin Wharf A finger. The Flyer is located at Berth 20.

Directions: Walk up Marlin Wharf A finger, when you reach the end turn left and keep walking until you reach Berth 20. Keep an eye out for the boat that says "Fitzroy Island Flyer" so that you don’t line up for the wrong boat!

Paths and Beaches:

• After disembarking from the wooden jetty, the paths are dirt tracks.
• Welcome Bay beach consists of loose petrified coral, making it difficult to reach the water without assistance for wheelchair users.
• Access to the glass bottom boat is challenging due to the coral beach. Assistance is needed to navigate steps; wheelchairs cannot be accommodated.
• Snorkelling access can be difficult for wheelchair users because of steep incline down to the water. But it is achievable!
• Access to the beach is easier if you head to the left of the Jetty when arriving at Fitzroy. Follow the path to the last Beach Cabin where you will reach an opening to the beach.

Facilities and Toilets:

• An accessible toilet is located near the resort reception. Day guests are allowed to use this facility, even though the resort is usually off-limits.
  Ramp access is located near Zephyrs Restaurant

Dining and Bar Areas:

• Foxy's Bar has limited wheelchair access with steps in various sections.
• Guests can sit at tables overlooking Welcome Bay, but there is a step to enter the bar for food and drinks.
• There is no wheelchair-accessible toilet at Foxy's Bar, but one is available at the resort's reception.

National Park:

• There are no wheelchair-accessible tracks in the national park on the island.

There is a wheelchair access ramp on the right-hand side of the resort where Zephyrs Restaurant is situated.
There are lifts available to each of the floors.
There are wooden walkways on each of the accommodation levels.

• 1 Two Bedroom Island Suite can be configured with an accessible Island Suite and an interconnecting Resort studio for a carer.
