Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
End your day with a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, offering stunning views of the rainforest canopy and two stops along the way.
The Skyrail operates similar to a ski gondola, it continues on a loop and a new gondola comes past every 45 seconds.
The staff can slow the Skyrail down, or to a complete stop for wheelchair boarding with a ramp.
There are attendants at all stops that can radio ahead to let the staff at the next know so they can assist you with disembarking.
You can choose to travel in your wheelchair, or have your wheelchair follow in the gondola behind you.
The gondolas are wheelchair accessible, but there are some requirements:
- Width: Up to 630mm
- Length: Up to 950mm
- Wheelchairs should be tiltable (able to raise front wheels) for gondola loading.
- The combined weight of the wheelchair and occupant should be manageable for operator-assisted loading.
- Handles are necessary for easy lifting into the gondolas.
- Staff members are available to assist with boarding and disembarking the gondolas, and there are ramps readily available throughout the Skyrail experience.
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are also available. - There are complimentary wheelchairs available for use at Skyrail, if your personal aid isn't suitable.
There are two stops along the way:
Red Peak
- Red Peak is a mid-station located deep within the tropical rainforest.
- Access ramps are located to the right after disembarking the gondolas leading to the Rainforest Discovery Zone and boardwalk.
- A short rainforest boardwalk loop is 175 metres (574 feet) long and on average 1540 millimetre (61 inches) wide leading to a lookout across the Barron Gorge National Park.
- Toilet access is via the Rainforest Discovery Zone. With accessible facilities, baby change, handrails, and low set amenities.
These are composting toilets (Clivus Multrum waterless toilet system) to protect the heritage environment. - Bench seating is available in the Rainforest Discovery Zone.
Barron Falls
- Barron Falls is a mid-station located adjacent to the Barron Falls and gorge.
- Access ramps are located to the left after disembarking the gondolas leading to our two waterfall lookouts.
- A short rainforest boardwalk and The Edge Lookout loop is 285 metres (935 feet) long and 1670mm (66 inches) wide.
- Toilet access is via a wide graduated walkway. With accessible facilities, baby change, handrails, and low set amenities.
These are composting toilets (Clivus Multrum waterless toilet system) to protect the heritage environment. - Bench seating is available next to the Rainforest Interpretation Centre and at boarding.
- A short ramp leads to the Rainforest Interpretation Centre with 850 millimetre (33.5 inches) wide door.
